Cannot install Apple Mobile Device USB Driver iPhone

When I open iTunes my iPhone 4S will not show up as a device. I have tried the advice provided by Apple. I have gone through the iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant. That gave no solutions. I have tried the other solutions offered by Apple. I think that I have possibly identified the problem. As far as I know the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not installed on my computer. I have tried to install it but when I do I receive an error message. I repeat the entire error message in the following paragraph. The message appears in a dialogue box with the name: "Update Driver Software - iPhone".

"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. Access is denied. If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."

I cannot find a solution to this problem on Apple's website. How can I get this driver installed?

My version of iTunes is current. My PC's operating system is Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.

In case you haven't seen it, Apple has outlined the correct process for installing the driver in #4 at the bottom of this article (be sure you are installing the correct version: 32 vs. 64-bit): http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538.  If you already followed this and it still won't install then I'm afraid I don't know the fix for this.
