Hey guys, I recently bought a 32 gb Iphone 5 and during a call the screen wont turn off. At first the auto-brightness wasnt working either and when i'd shine a light at the sensor the brightness would stay the same. I've tried a hard and soft reset then finally a restore which got the Auto Brightness working but the proximity sensor still wont work and as the screen is on during a call, I keep muting calls or turning speakphone on when the phone touches my face. There're tons of people with the same problem with their IP4's and 5's. Is apple aware of this? Is it a hardware or software issue? Since i'm not in the country of purchase anymore this causes immense problems for me after buying a thousand dollar phone.
bump! anybody else facing issues with the prox sensor?
From the User Guide: restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW
If those steps fail, bring your phone to Apple
Hi, not that it will help you, but i had the same issue. Did a full reset, tried everything I could find on the net, but nothing worked. The proximity sensor, which had worked perfectly, was definitely not working.
Took it to Apple and they replaced it immediately as a hardware fault.
But I suspect my iphone case may have caused the fault - it had a magnet sitting very close to the proximity sensor, and my suspicion is that the magnet disrupted the sensor.
Apple doesnt recommend magnets on iphone cases, I didnt realise that, but wont be buying a case with a magnet again, just in case that caused the failure.
Do you have a screen protector or case on the phone? It could be disrupting the sensor.
