Hey all, just bought the new iphone 5s today, set up fine and backed up from itunes. It asked me to update to ISO7.0.1 which i did, it downloaded and started the update then it said update failed and it has gone into recovery mode. Itunes say it has detected the iphone in recovery mode, please restore to i tap restore and it starts updating then it fails saying unexpected error 17, when i look at apples site their is no error code 17 i need help please guys/ girls

Try this. Connect the phone to the charger that came with it, and reset the device by holding power and hte home button until it turns off. Then try restoring again.

I had similar problem.  In my case the fail occurred during attempts to update firmware whilst in recovery mode.

Was able to get around this by disabling my firewall during subsequent attempt

Just making sure you are running iTunes 11.1....?

Try a DFU mode.  Disclaimer: This is seriously at your own risk as its the most basic level a phone can boot into and thus opens it up to a much more severe bricking sequence.  It's like recovery mode but plug into computer, hold the home key + power button for 10 seconds, release power button whilst still holding the home key for an additional 10 second then release. iTunes should say its detected a phone in recovery and the device's screen will still be black.  You need to get the timing of 10 seconds as close as possible. If you acheive this then go through attempting a restore.

It's radical but it's a shot.  Otherwise you can just call tech support line at 800-MY-Apple/visit retail store and work through it to a hopeful resolution. This is sadly, but honestly, the risk you take with buying a brand new device on it's first day or launch.

Hi Chuckles thanks for the advice i tried this too, but when attempting the restore it just fails on error "2005" something to do with the SMC. Took it back to shop and they have ordered me a new phone to delivered to the shop on monday morning, they spent a good hour trying everything they know to force it restore but nothing worked.
